We're Hiring: Aurora Guide

Aurora Dreams is a small, local tour operator in Kiruna. Through the winter we run evening aurora hunts in small groups — max 16 guests in 2 vans — plus daytime winter tours. As our guide you are the face of the evening: you welcome guests at pickup, drive one of the vans, keep everyone safe and comfortable in the cold, share what you know about the northern lights, and make sure people go home with a story. This is first and foremost a guiding role — hands-on and guest-facing, not an office job.

We offer fair, competitive compensation for this seasonal role. The exact hourly rate and employment terms are agreed based on experience, responsibilities and the expected schedule, and are confirmed in writing before employment.

Guide Evening Aurora Tours

Welcome guests, set the mood, and share the Arctic night sky with visitors from all over the world.

Look After the Group

Keep everyone safe, warm and comfortable through hours outdoors — tours run down to −30 °C.

Photography When Needed

You may help capture high-quality photos of the northern lights, guests and groups using company-provided photography equipment when needed.

Season & Schedule

Roughly November 2026 to early April 2027. Mostly evenings and nights; the schedule follows bookings, weather and demand, with weekends and holidays possible and Christmas and New Year as peak weeks.

Equipment Provided

Aurora Dreams provides the vehicle, camera, tripod and other equipment needed to perform the tour. Applicants do not need to own professional photography equipment.

Do You Qualify?

What we require — and what earns you extra points

You must have

Good, confident English. You can hold a conversation, explain things clearly and look after international guests all evening.
Your own accommodation in Kiruna for the whole season — see the note below.
B driving licence. You'll drive one of our vans, so you need to be confident on snow and ice.
Evening and night availability, including weekends and holiday dates.
Age 18 or older.
Comfort in Arctic cold. Hours outdoors at −20 °C and below, sometimes waiting for the sky to clear.
Reliability. Guests and a small team depend on you showing up on time, every time.

Accommodation is not provided. We do not offer housing and we cannot help you find it. You need to arrange your own place to stay in Kiruna for the season before you apply.

Extra merits

More languages — especially Spanish, French or Italian. Swedish, German and other languages are also a plus.
Experience in guiding, tourism, hospitality or customer service.
Local knowledge of the Kiruna area and the night sky.
First aid training.
Professional photography experience — especially night or northern-lights/astrophotography, tripod work, people or groups in low light, and manual camera settings. This is an extra merit, not a requirement.

Quick answers before you apply

Do you provide accommodation?

No. You must have your own accommodation in Kiruna for the whole season. We do not provide housing and we cannot help you find it — arrange your own place before you apply.

Do I need to speak Swedish?

No. Good spoken English is required, since most guests are international. Swedish is a plus, and Spanish, French or Italian are especially welcome.

When does the season run?
